Described as a "rising star of the countertenor world", Alex Potter is a sought-after interpreter of seventeenth and eighteenth-century music, whose work takes him all over Europe.
He has performed with conductors including Philippe Herreweghe, Thomas Hengelbrock, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Philippe Pierlot, Peter Neumann, Paul Goodwin and Frieder Bernius. Alongside numerous performances of works by Bach, Handel and other established composers, he takes particular interest in seeking out and singing lesser known repertoire in concerts and recordings under his own direction.

After beginning his musical career as a chorister at Southwark Cathedral, Alex Potter was a Choral Scholar and read Music at New College, Oxford. He then went on to pursue further study in singing and baroque performance practice at the Schola Cantorum in Basel with Gerd Türk, taking additional classes with Evelyn Tubb. Recent performances of note include Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with The Netherlands Bach Society in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Handel’s Eternal Source of Light Divine at St. John’s, Smith Square with Clare College Choir and the European Union Baroque Orchestra under Lars Ulrik Mortensen, a solo concert of music by Johann Rosenmüller with the ensemble Chelycus at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, where he was reinvited in 2014, and Handel’s Messiah with the Danish Radio Choir and Orchestra under Marcus Creed.

Amongst his discography are Heinrich Schütz’s Schwanengesang with Collegium Vocale Gent/Herreweghe and Handel's Eternal Source of Light Divine with the European Union Baroque Orchestra, the Choir of Clare College Cambridge and Lars Ulrik Mortensen. In addition, he has made two solo Recording of Music by Johann Rosenmüller for the Ramée Label and another of Motets by Jan Dismas Zelenka for Pan Classics. His most recent solo CD Fede e Amor, with Viennese Baroque Music for alto voice and obbligato trombones, released on the Ramée label, received excellent reviews and was nominated for an International Classical Music Award.
