Jan De WinneBild_Jan studied flute, chamber music and transverse flute at the conservatories of Gent and Brussels.

Simultaneously he graduated in musicology and art history at the University of Gent. He completed his traverso studies with Barthold Kuijken in 1991. He was finalist of the prestigious international early music competition in Bruges in 1987.

He has been a member of the Collegium Vocale and the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (Philippe Herreweghe) for more than 15 years before turning to a career as soloist and chamber musician.

His passion for period instruments led him to make baroque and classical flutes. In 1988, he founded Il Gardellino with Marcel Ponseele.

Besides several chamber music programmes and concertos with il Gardellino, he recorded Haydn trio's, Boismortier concertos, CPE Bach quartetsm trios and sonatas for the labels Eufoda, Naxos, Unacorda and Accent. Jan De Winne teaches traverso and chamber music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Dance of Paris and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

He is also the artistic director of the CD-label "Passacaille".
