English soprano Natasha Goldberg showed musical talent and a love of singing from an early age. At 12 she became the youngest finalist in the BBC Choirgirl of the Year competition in her home country. She enjoyed a first-class musical education as a Choral Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge, where she studied French and German languages and literature (graduating with a Starred First in 2005) and subsequently philosophy of science, receiving her doctorate in 2010. In the same year she obtained the Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with Distinction. In 2013 she graduated from the excellence program in Baroque singing Barock Vokal at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz, where she now lives.
Solo engagements have taken Natasha Goldberg to the Berlin Philharmonic, the Cologne Philharmonic, the Mozart Hall in Donaueschingen and the Staatstheater Mainz. She is a sought-after soloist at concerts and church services in the Mainz/Frankfurt/Wiesbaden area. She is represented by us since autumn 2024.
Natasha Goldberg is very active as a choir and ensemble singer. Since 2012 she has been a core member of ChorWerk Ruhr and of the Bachakademie Stuttgart (Gaechinger Cantorey). She sings regularly with the NDR and SWR radio choirs, as well as with Vocalconsort Berlin and the specialist ensemble for new music Schola Heidelberg. In 2021 she was selected by the Cologne Vocal Soloists (Kölner Vokalsolisten) as their new 1st soprano. She is on the books for Tenebrae and Polyphony and has had offers of work from the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, the RIAS Chamber Choir and the Netherlands Radio Choir. In 2023 she successfully auditioned for Collegium Vocale Gent.
Although she loves to sing Bach above all, Natasha also likes other genres of music, particularly French chanson (think Brel, Brassens, Barbara...) and folk music. She enjoys playing folk and country music on the guitar. When not singing, Natasha can usually be found knitting - you can admire her creations here ...
SONUS about Natasha Goldberg
What spontaneously appealed to me about Natasha's singing was the extraordinary thoughtfulness with which she shapes vocal lines. Every note has its purpose, its meaning in a phrase, every word is emphasized according to the melody of the text, every musical phrase becomes a narrative - in short, she is a very intelligent and versatile musician.
You don't often find this in such an intensity (unfortunately!) - and certainly not paired with such technical perfection as Natasha displays: excellent intonation, secure coloratura, exquisite pronunciation (her German is actually more perfect than that of many a German singer), wonderful vocal colors. And by the way, she also has a wide range, feels at home and relaxed even in very high parts.
In addition, she is an experienced and sensitive ensemble singer, who certainly has a powerful volume, but carefully balances whether the use of it is appropriate at a given moment.
